The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced Lars Kim Björkegren, popularly known as Kim Björkegren as the new gaffer for the country’s Senior National Female team, the Black Queens.
The 43-year-old Swedish international will replace erstwhile Nora Hauptle at the head of a new technical lead which includes Charles Sampson and Anita Wiredu as assistant coaches, while Nassamu Yakubu has been appointed as Goalkeepers Coach.
Enoch Jordan Daitey has been appointed by the Ghana Football Association to oversee the team’s athletic conditioning.
Kate Boachie-Agyemang with support from Team Nurse Asinawu Abubakari and Physiotherapist Margaret Foli while lead the medical team.
Drucilia Arthur has been named Welfare Manager, while Patience Nana A. Quarshie and Adwoa Bayor will handle equipment management. The team will also benefit from the expertise of experienced video analyst Ronnie Bergdahl.
Kim Björkegren who quit football at the age of 22 after sustaining a career ending injuring played for Ljungsbro and Allsvenska Åtvidabergs FF.
The Swedish tactician has achieved notable success in women’s football, winning the Cyprus Women’s League with Apollon Ladies and the Swedish Damallsvenskan with Linköpings FC. His achievements earned him the Coach of the Season award in Cyprus for the 2020-2021 season.
He has also coached Beijing BG Phoenix in the Chinese Super League (placing third in both the Chinese Women’s FA Cup and Super Cup in 2018) and has worked as Technical Director of Manila Digger FC of the Philippines. Kim also coached a number of male teams at various levels of the Swedish Football League system.
Most recently, Kim has been manager of Racing Louisville in the National Women’s Soccer League of the United States of America [USA].
He holds the joint record with Sven-Göran Eriksson as the second Swedish coach to win domestic titles in two different countries.
Bjorkegren, a seasoned Swedish tactician, is expected to bring his expertise to the Black Queens, leading them to greater heights.
