Minister-designate for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye has assured that forty out of the agenda 111 Hospital projects will be commissioned before the end of the year.
He revealed that about 50 of the facilities have gone way up and some of them have been roofed pending equipement to operationalised.
Answering a question before the vetting Committee in Parliament, the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA) boss stated that Managers of the projects are considering leasing equipment for the facilities to start operation.
“First of all will be agenda 111, I am happy to hear from my ranking member that the government has committed over 251 million dollars, it means that the Akufo-Addo government is spending some good money on some of these infrastructure. Mr. Chairman, I am also happy to mention that I have a very good relationship with Dr. Nsiah Asare who is one of the people working on the agenda 111” He said.
“And we have about 50 of the facilities that have gone way up and Mr. Chairman when I say way up, some even have had roofing done, there are a lot of them that progress steadily. What I want to say is that extra ordinary assignment require extraordinary measures, and one of the things I know this government has been contemplating is the equipping of these facilities”
“Traditionally, when we build hospitals, we buy the equipment that will be put in them and I know that the Managers of this project are considering the leasing of the equipment instead of outright purchase and this would put us in a position where we can succeed in having equipment put in. At least, there is a minimum of about forty that are likely to be commissioned before the end of the year. Out of 111, there is a minimum of forty to be commissioned, these forty are likely to benefit from the lease programme that is being discussed.” Okoe-Boye stated.
According to him, if the forty of the projects that are likely to be commissioned are able to operationalise, they would have filled a gap that is so significant that it would be difficult not to recognise or to mention.
He also commended the Akufo-Addo government for the old iitiative.
He believes it is a good thing to have someone who aims at building 111 hospitals and delivers 40 than the one who doesn’t dream at all.
“And Mr. Chairman, if we are able to operationalise forty of these facilities, they would have filled a gap that is so significant that it would be difficult not to recognise or to mention and forgive me for saying this but it is a good thing to have someone who aims at building 111 hospitals and delivers 40 than the one doesn’t dream at all” The Minister designate said.
