Brighton and Hove Albion has handed Manchester United its first defeat in the 2024/2025 English Premier League (EPL) season.

The game, which was an early kickoff match took place at the Falmer Stadium and ended with a final score of 2-1, in favor of the Seagulls.

The match against Manchester United, was Fabian Hürzeler first competitive game for Brighton in front of the home fans following his appointment on 15th June, 2024.

In his first ever competitive game for the Seagulls, the youngest permanent head coach in the English Premier League history got a comfortable 3: 0 win over Everton at the Goodison Park.

The home team started strong, with their relentless attack forcing Manchester United to defend mostly in the first of the match. Brighton and Hove Albion’s persistence paid off when they scored the first goal, putting them ahead of Manchester United.

Former United striker Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the first half on the 32nd minute from a smart slide finish from close range after Mitoma kept alive a ball from Joao Pedro. The goal against Manchester United, was Welbeck’s 100th career goal and his fifth Premier League goal against his former club.

United equalized through Amad Diallo on the hour mark, but their momentum faded after Garnacho’s disallowed goal in the 73rd minute.

Alejandro Garnacho, after 7 minutes in the game tapped home to give the Red Devils the lead after Fernandes squares following a superb overlap move with Diallo on the right. However, the goal was disallowed as the hit Zirkzee on its way when the Dutchman was already in an offside position.

João Pedro Junqueira de Jesus, had the final say in the game as he scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to give Brighton a thrilling victory over Manchester United.

The win marks an exciting start to the 2024/2025 EPL season for Brighton and Hove Albion, and coach Fabian Hürzeler as he and his team prove themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
