Chelsea FC manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that defender Trevoh Tom Chalobah is happy to return to Stamford Bridge after his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
Chalobah, who begun his football career at the West London based club was loaned to Crystal Palace for the start of the 2024/2025 English Premier League season despite delivering solid performances for Chelsea Football Club in the in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 campaigns.
Chalobah was this week re-called early from his season-long loan at Palace. The decision to recall Chalobah due to Chelsea’s current defensive crisis. The Blues key player Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are set for a lengthy absence due to injury, leaving Maresca with limited options, including Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner said on Tuesday that Chalobah did not want to end his loan early, but during Enzo Maresca’s pre-Wolves press conference disclosed that Chalobah is excited to join his Chelsea teammates and also expressed his excitement about the return of defender Trevor Chalobah, emphasizing the player’s familiarity with the club and his potential to make a significant impact on the team.
Addressing the reason for Chalobah’s loan to Crystal Palace, Enzo Maresca said “the reason why he [Chalobah] left at the beginning of the season, it was more to do with these kinds of problems, financial, these kinds of things. It was not only a technical decision. We are sure he can help us now.”
