FC Samartex 1996 has officially announced the signing of Emmanuel Kofi Essien, a dynamic central midfielder, as part of their strategy to strengthen the squad ahead of the second round of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League season.

In an official statement on Friday, January 17, the club noted that the youngster has signed a long-term deal.

“Emmanuel Kofi Essien joins us on a long-term contract. Kofi Essien last played for Berekum Chelsea in Ghana. Welcome to the Timber family,” FC Samartex shared in a post on X.

Essien, known for his creativity, vision, and work rate in midfield, is expected to bring a new level of energy and tactical flexibility to the team.

FC Samartex 1996 won last season’s Ghana Premier League with 61 points. The team recorded 19 wins, 11 losses, and 4 draws in 34 Premier League matches. They scored 45 goals, conceded 28, and ended the season as the league’s top-scoring side with the best goal difference.

However, the Timber Giants are struggling to repeat last season’s form after 16 games in this season’s Ghana Premier League.

Coach Christopher Ennin’s side has recorded 5 wins, 6 draws, and 5 losses. Samartex has scored 11 goals and conceded 10 goals in 1n 16 Premier League games.

With the signing of Emmanuel Kofi Essien, FC Samartex will hope to improve especially in the second round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Meanwhile, sources have indicated that the club will bring in a couple of players in addition to Kofi Essien to improve the quality of the team.

Samartex will end the first half  of the season with a home game against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.
