The Coalition for Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), will be deploying 4,000 to observe the upcoming December polls in Ghana.
These observers, according to Kojo Asante from the CODEO Secretariat, will serve as Rapid Response Observers at a representative sample of polling stations across all constituencies in the country.
The observers will be to monitor the electoral process and ensure transparency and fairness.
In an interview with Asaase Radio monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com. Mr. Asante said “we have been observing elections since the year 2,000 so we have done almost every national election, local government election, by-election, all the time.
“This year as you said, there are different characteristics, the two candidates also comes from the northern part of the country for the first time, so it almost setout for both security issues for any kind of conflicts or intensity of the campaigning, it helps you to be able to map up the country and see what special measures you have to take in place to mitigate any kind of challenges.” He said.
“CODEO has been active as we also do, we have already monitored the voter registration exercise which was completed recently, the vote transfer, we are preparing to observe the exhibition of the voter register after the mop-up process, we will have about four more months of pre-election observation.”
“This year’s elections, we will deploy up to 4,000 observers across the country and as we have done in previous elections since 2008, we will deploy the parallel vote tabulation that will allow us to independently verify the presidential results as well.” He added.
Ghana will hold its general elections on December 7, 2024 to elect President and Parliamentarians for the next four years.
Both the political parties are gearing up for the elections.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are the two largest parties people are expecting to win the presidential seat.
