A Non-Governmental Organization, Ecocare Ghana in collaboration with the Offinso North District Assembly, has planted over 200,000 seedlings within the district.
In an interview with our reporter, the Ecocare Ghana Director, Obed Owusu Addai, said the purpose for the project is to help protect Ghana’s forest reserves as well as to beautify the environment.
He applauded the Offinso North District Assembly for opening their gates for such partnership.
“Let me thank the D.C.E and the Offinso North District Assembly for their collaboration, not all Assemblies will welcome such an initiative. My suggestion is that all Assemblies will take full control of the planting of trees and decentralize it to the various electoral areas without leaving the burden on the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.” He said.
According to Mr. Obed, the climate is changing rapidly hence the need for the planting of trees, an initiative he believes can save the environment from any unfortunate incident.
He explained that, “today is commemorative planting, but today is not the first time we are planting trees and we will continue to plant the trees, we have nursed a lot of seedlings so all those interested to join our project can register with the Offinso North District Assembly.”
On his part, the Offinso North District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Edward Boamah revealed that “thanks to Ecocare Ghana, they have given us some seedlings to plant within our district, we look forward to supporting the planting of trees with our technical know-how”.
He continued, “we urged the Presiding Member and the inhabitants of Afrancho to ensure that this project becomes a success because as the adage goes, when the last tree dies, the last man dies so we won’t sit aloof for the last tree to die”.
