The visit follows a formal request by the Member of Parliament for the Salaga-South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, seeking a DVLA office to serve residents of the East Gonja Municipality and neighbouring districts such as North East Gonja, Kpandai and Pru East.

The delegation from the DVLA included Mr. Iddisah Yeboah Seidu, Deputy CEO (Operations), Mr. Kafui Semevo, Director, Driver Training, Testing and Licensing, Mr. Sam Abandoh, Director, IT; and Madam Juliana Mensah, Secretary. After inspecting the temporary office space earmarked for the district DVLA operations, the team expressed satisfaction with the facility. Mr. Yeboah explained that the inspection team had been dispatched by the DVLA CEO and the Minister for Transport to assess the readiness of the proposed office. He assured the traditional authorities and the MP’s representatives that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the DVLA CEO and the Minister for further action.

Speaking on behalf of the Kpembewura, Lepowura Abdul-Karim Alaja expressed gratitude to the DVLA leadership for responding to the community’s long-standing request. He emphasized that establishing a DVLA office in Salaga remains a priority for the Kpembewura and appealed to the DVLA CEO, the Minister for Transport, the MP and the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, to ensure that the initiative materializes. He noted that the new office would significantly ease the burden on vehicle and motorcycle users who currently travel long distances to Tamale, Bole or Yendi for DVLA services.

The Deputy Coordinating Director of the East Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mr. Abu Ibrahim, welcomed the move and assured the delegation of the Assembly’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety of DVLA staff and property when operations begin. He said maintaining security remains a major priority for the Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the MP, the Director of Special Projects, Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, thanked the DVLA leadership for their prompt response to the MP’s request. He reaffirmed the MP’s determination to collaborate with the Transport Ministry, DVLA, the Municipal Assembly and the traditional authority to ensure the establishment of the new office.

The inspection marks a significant step toward bringing essential DVLA services closer to residents of Salaga and surrounding districts. Stakeholders remain optimistic that the establishment of the district office will improve convenience for road users, enhance service delivery and contribute to local development.
