At long last, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has presented the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh also known as Napo to president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as his choice of running mate.
According to a joynewsonline.com report, the vice President did the presentation at a meeting that took place on Tuesday, 25th June, 2024 at the Jubilee House.
The choosing of running mate by the NPP flagbearer ahead of the 20924 general election on December 7, 2024 has generated many reactions within the political actors.
Reports say the president accepted the choice of Dr. Bawumia and advised him ahead of the elections.
While some leaders of the NPP were calling for calm and patience to allow the flagbearer to choose a running mate of his choice, Napo was addressed in parliament as the NPP running mate.
Many party faithfuls understand Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempah deserves to be the running mate to Dr. Bawumia due to his commitment, loyalty, unifier, consent of grassroots , development oriented amongst others.
The combination of Dr. Bawumia and Napo, according to some party members, will help the NPP to win the 2024 elections.
The former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party and Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong earlier disclosed that he will only campaign for the NPP in the 2024 elections if Dr. Bawumia chooses Napo as his running mate.
This statement gave many the impression that Napo will be chosen as running mate to Dr. Bawumia when Ken Agyapong joined the flagbearer to campaign in the Ashanti Region during his 3-days visit in the region.
The flagbearer of the party is expected to meet with the party’s council to formally present his choice before formal announcement will be made.
The NPP is determined to win the 2024 elections with their slogan “breaking the 8”
