Sub-chief in the Ashanti Region has warned that Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, can lose his position as the President of Bono Regional House of Chiefs to calm him down from making unpleasant comments regarding the authority of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to the Nkosuohene of the Essumeja Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Nana Akuoko Kwarteng, the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area has become arrogant to challenge the authority of Asantehene because of his position as Paramount Chief of Bono Regional House of Chiefs.
Speaking in an interview shared on Asantemanso TV on YouTube monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Nana Akuoko Kwarteng stated that Dormaahene’s position as Paramount Chief of Bono Regional House of Chiefs is not hereditary, he was voted for. And the same people who voted for him can also vote against him.
“Before Nana Agyemang Badu became Bono Regional House of Chiefs President, we know what he was doing there, and we know what he is doing now after he became the president of Bono Regional House of Chiefs. We voted for him to become the president so a time will come whereby the same hands that raised up voted for him will go down because he didn’t occupy the position by hereditary. Unlike Otumfuo who will still remain on the golden stool because his position is holy and tied to royalty.” He said.
Adding that “Asanteman has been there a long time ago, so if someone says that Otumfuo doesn’t have the power to elevate someone to a paramount chief, then it means that particular person doesn’t know what he is saying or trying to shift the goalposts. If we are speaking the truth, Ashanti existed a long time ago and our culture and traditions show that Asantehene Otumfuo is different. Per government law, Otumfuo is also different from all other chiefs.”
He continued “At least we have about 60 Paramount chiefs in the Ashanti Kingdom who serve Otumfuo. How many paramount chiefs are under Dormaahene? He doesn’t have the power to install a paramount chief that is why he doesn’t have. If Otumfuo is to elevate Paramount chief today, he can do it……What he is doing is too much. He should not create any chaos among the other Aduana clans.”
His comment comes after Dormaahene had threatened to resist any attempt by Otumfuo to elevate the Fiapre chief in the Bono region to a Paramount chief.
According to Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, Asantehene is a Paramount Chief and for that matter he doesn’t have power to elevate any chief.
Adding that Fiaprehene is not under Asanteman Traditional Council so Asantehene has no right to install him as a paramount chief.
“Fiaprehene please, Otumfuo Asantehene cannot install you as a paramount chief. As long as I remain the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Otumfuo cannot install a paramount chief in Fiapre without his approval. It is not possible. Even if the court rules for their favour, I will disobey the ruling, I am ready to go to jail to save Bono people.” Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II vowed.
But Nana Akuoko Kwarteng said the law allows Fiaprehene to be part of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs if Otumfuo elevates him.
“If Otumfuo elevates the Fiaprehene to Paramount chief, the law allows him to be part of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs. He has every power to elevate him so if Otumfuo elevates him and Dormaahene says because of that he won’t be chief in Dormaa anymore, we wish him goodbye then. The Dormaa seat does not belong to him alone, so if he doesn’t want the throne, someone else will take over. But the golden stool is for Otumfuo; he can not be dethroned. So if he wants to sacrifice himself, someone will come and take the throne.” He explained.
