The leader of the Zongo community in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East region, Sariki Zongo, Alhaji Alhassan Hasire Sairi, has called on all Zongo youth in the Techiman South Municipality and Ghana at large, to avoid political manipulation.
He urged the youth to resist any form of pressure to engage in violence activities before, during and after the December polls.
Speaking to media during the celebration of this year’s Eid Mubarak, Alhaji Alhassan Hasire Sairi, encouraged the youth to desist from being used as political stooges.
“My brethrens in Techiman, I want to thank Allah for his mercies and grace for seeing us through a successful Eid prayer and also I want to thank our leaders in Techiman and for that matter in Ghana for upholding the peace and unity of this great nation.
“The celebration of the Eid is in accordance with Allah’s will and since it’s Allah will, we should be mindful of how we conduct ourselves during the celebration
“Allah wants us to live in peace and therefore I will advise youth in Zongo to desist from any related election violence.” He said
According to him, politicians mostly target Zongo youth for election-related violence without getting any positive thing in return.
He therefore urged the youth, especially those in the Zongo communities to refrain from being puppets of politicians and rather identify roles they can play to sustain the country’s peace and harmony.
“It is sad that whenever we are talking about violence, Zongo takes the center stage, I will plead with you to abide by the advice of our leaders and always remember that whoever becomes an advocate of violence will be greatly punished.
“When the time is due, go to the polling station, cast your vote and return home.
“We have officers designated to count and announce the results of the elections so I will plead with you to abide by the law and let us preserve the peace of this country.” Alhaji Alhassan Hasire Sairi told our reporter.
