The Awerepemhene of Wenhci Nkyeraa Traditional Area, Nana Kobi Boateng Ansusumesua, has called on Ghanaians to actively participate in festivals preserve their community’s customs and traditions.
Nana Kobi Boateng Ansusumesua, in an interview with the media debunk the perception that culture, traditions, and customs are idolatry. According to him, they are the lifeblood of a community’s identity and must be preserved at all cost.
He said this during the Benkadi Kurubi Festival at Kintampo North in the Bono East region of Ghana. He explained that, all developed countries have preserved their cultural heritage and Ghana should also do so in order to foster development in the country.
“Customs and traditions is not idolatry, any chief that respects the customs and traditions of the land enjoys a successful reign.
“We are now following the culture, traditions, and customs of the Europeans while neglecting our own culture which is not the best. Countries like India, China and the rest of Asia don’t joke with the cultural heritage and I don’t see why we as a country have to discard our culture, traditions, and custom.” He said.
Nana Kobi Boateng Ansusumesua, ceased the occasion to caution the youth against any action that will bring this year’s elections into disrepute saying, “I am pleading with the youth not to do anything that will jeopardize the peace and unity of the country, both parties (NPP and NDC) all wants to win this year’s elections so we want the youth to stay away from anything that will threating our peace.”
He also urged politicians to measure their utterances during their campaigns.
“My advice to the politicians is also to be very cautious of their utterances, we have elections every four years and I don’t see why this year’s elections should be any different from our previous elections. we should all be diligent and respect the views of others and I believe that by so doing, we will have a very peaceful elections.” He told our reporter.
