Church of Pentecost feasts with marginalized group in Techiman
The Techiman Area of the Church of Pentecost through its Home and Urban Missions (HUM) has fed over three hundred children and vulnerable people within Techiman and its neighbouring communities.
The colourful event, took place at the premises of the Dwomor Pentecost Central and was graced with the presence of the Area Apostle, Apostle Nii Isaac Kotei Djani, Pastor of the Home and Urban Missions, Pastor Akwesi Bukar, some pastors, deacons and elders of the church, representatives of both the Member of Parliament and Municipal Chief Executive of Techiman South as well as chiefs from the Techiman Traditional Council.
The event, which demonstrated compassion, care and support was aimed at providing nourishing meals for individuals from vulnerable groups such as drug addicts and street dwellers and individuals who may be facing difficult circumstances in Techiman.
The program also provided an opportunity for the church to build relationships and establish connections with individuals from the vulnerable groups, a move the Home and Urban Mission under the Church of Pentecost believes can foster a sense of belonging, trust and understanding which may open doors for further support and assistance in the future.
Pastor Akwesi Bukari, in an interview with the media explained that, Christians have a duty to demonstrate love to all and sundry irrespective of their background as stated in John 3:16.
“Home and Urban Mission, understands that Jesus Christ came to save mankind irrespective of their background, Jesus didn’t come to save a particular group of people but he came to save everybody. In John 3: 16, for God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever, the key word is whosoever, so either the person has attended so school or not, either he comes from a noble family or not, irrespective of who the person is, he is important to God.”
According to him, “the HUM focuses on three sectors, we have those who are leaving in Ghana but are not Ghanaians, we also look at the urban missions, which is those who have migrated to the cities and are struggling in life and apart from that, we also focused on the other unreached groups.”
“We have some group of people or tribes that have less than 5% of its populations as Christians, there are about 19 groups of such people and they are also part of our focus, it’s our responsibility to preach the word of God to them but today’s program is to feast with individuals from the vulnerable groups in the society while we share the word of God with them.”
The Techiman North Constituency Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party who is the Chief Executive Officer of GIFA Herbal Centre and Globe TV, Dr. Stephen Apiahgyei Donkor, ceased the opportunity to urge the “ghetto” youth to desist from attitudes that are considered as social vices.
He explained that God has a purpose for every single soul on earth and therefore it is necessary for everybody to focus on achieving what God has planned for him or her.
“God created humans for a particular purpose, we are to come on earth and fulfil that purpose and that is the main reason I accepted to be one of the guest speakers of the program because it will give the opportunity to meet our brothers and sisters from the ghetto and share with them the purpose of their existence.”
“We have advised them and although we can’t say all of them will heed to our advice but we believe that most of them will take the advice and I will use this opportunity to encourage all those in behaviours such as drugs intake prostitution and other social vices to take a cue from Ecclesiastes 6:3, A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he. God wants us to come to earth and be useful in our communities so I will urge all those engaging in social vices to put a stop to it”
The Area Apostle for the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Nii Kotei Djani, revealed that, the Home and Urban Missions of the Church of Pentecost, is an initiative of Chairman of The Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, with the aim of preaching the word of God to the marginalized groups in our society.
He disclosed that, while the church is feasting with the vulnerable in the society, they have and will continue to share the Gospel with them. According to them, they already have some individuals from the marginalized groups that through the work of the HUM has accepted the Gospel and they hope that more souls will be won through the program.
“This ministry, is part of the vision 2023 of our Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, he realized that we have some people that have been marginalized, although we are spreading the Gospel but such people have been neglected, so he introduced the Home and Urban Missions, the aim of the Home and Urban Missions is to preach the Gospel to the marginalized groups in the society.”
“So as we begin a new year, we are organizing this gettogether with them for them to know that, the church thinks about that and they are important to God, the church and the country, we have some of them that have already given their lives to Christ and we worship with them every Sunday but some of them are yet to repent so while they are here, we will share the love of God with them so that they can also repent.” He explained.
