The Management of Christian Service University (CSU), has paid a courtesy call to the Techiman Traditional Council as part of efforts to officially unveil their intentions of establishing a campus in the Techiman Metropolis.

The delegation, led by the Director for Institutional Advancement and lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies at Christian Service University, Rev. Justice Bofah Poku Mensah, aimed to formally introduce the institution to the Techiman traditional leaders as well as the people of Techiman and the Bono East region at large and also sought to secure the support and blessings of the traditional leaders for their upcoming  project.

During the meeting with the Techiman Traditional Council which was chaired by the Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, Nana Takyi Fri II, CSU’s delegation expressed their commitment to contributing to the educational development of Techiman and the Bono East Region as a whole. They outlined their plans to set up a campus of the university in Techiman, which will offer a range of academic programs to enhance access to quality education for residents of the area and neighboring communities.

Rev. Justice Bofah Poku Mensah, in an interview with the media disclosed that the university envisions creating opportunities for higher education and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region by introducing their unique brand of education to the Bono East region.

“The purpose is to to establish our presence and let the people in Techiman know about Christian Service University. We’ve been around for 50 years and we have contributed considerably to the intellectual growth of this country as an academic institution

“In the long term, we want to establish a campus here in this region so that we have a satellite campus, a functional one of course, to bring our brand of quality education to the people of Techiman and the erstwhile Brong Ahafo region as well.” He said
Rev. Mensah also disclosed that the university’s management chose Techiman as the location for their satellite campus because of its strategic position, connecting individuals across three or four regions.
“The fundamental reason is that we looked at other regions and the plan is not only to establish a campus at Techiman but Techiman is the first step.
“It’s the first step because we identified Techiman as a central point connecting about three or four different regions. After careful consideration and reconnaissance, we realized that if we established ourselves here, we were able to reach out to people in Sunyani, we were able to reach out to people from Kintampo area to the north, we were able to reach out to people from Nkoranza area, and of course those who are closer to Techiman but they are in Ashanti region like Akomadan down in those areas. Management think that Techiman offers us the kind of social, cultural demographics that will help us to reach out to more people with our brand of tertiary education” He said
He further disclosed that, Christian Service University runs both under graduate and post graduate programs. He also outlined some of the academic programs available at the university.
“Christian Service University runs undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Initially we were a university college, but since 2023, we’ve become a fully-fledged university, and we are expanding our programs.

“Currently, we run undergraduate programs in communication studies, business, theology, computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, planning and to address the knowledge gap in this region, we want to start with some of our undergraduate programs like BSC planning, which is very critical, communication studies which is very essential to the existence of humanity.

“We have also identified that Techiman has a vibrant religious stronghold, so we also want to bring theology so that we develop the capacity of our pastors and our religious leaders. Theology is not for only pastors.

“One of the emerging trends in academia is cybersecurity, because as you are aware, everybody is moving to the cyberspace, and we want to see how best we can secure that cyberspace, so we have introduced a first degree in cybersecurity, and we believe that it would be useful to the people in the Bono East region, especially those in Techiman and its environ. We will also be offering some postgraduate programs.”

On behalf of the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Krontihene Nana Takyi Fri II, the Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council welcomed the management of Christian Service University to Techiman and assured them of the full support of the Techiman Traditional Council.
