Former Belgium international Christian Benteke Liolo has officially signed for Al Wahda Football Club in the UAE Pro League, marking a new chapter in the 35-year-old striker’s career following his departure from D.C. United.
The Abu Dhabi–based club confirmed the signing as part of efforts to strengthen its squad for the remainder of the season.
Benteke, who was born in Kinshasa, started his professional career with Genk in 2007 before earning high-profile moves across Europe. He went on to feature prominently in the English Premier League, enjoying spells with Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace, where he became known for his physical presence and aerial ability.
The experienced forward later moved to Major League Soccer, spending three seasons with D.C. United before announcing his exit earlier this week. His arrival at Al Wahda brings proven top-level experience and leadership to a side aiming to strengthen its competitiveness in the UAE Pro League.
In a statement, Al Wahda said the signing forms part of a broader strategy to “meet the team’s needs and enhance the factors of success” as the club targets domestic success in the 2026 season. Benteke is expected to provide both goals and guidance to the squad as the campaign progresses.
