Chelsea FC have officially activated a recall clause in their contract with Crystal Palace to bring 25-year-old defender Trevoh Tom Chalobah back to Stamford Bridge.

Chalobah initially joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan on 30th August 2024, with the expectation to finish the 2024-25 season with the South London based team. However, the agreement included an option for Chelsea to recall the player at the midway point of the campaign, a clause the Blues have now exercised.

Enzo Merasca is currently facing a defensive crisis at the team with key players Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile set for lengthy absences with their respective hamstring problems, leaving the Chelsea head coach with Levi Colwill, Josh Acheampong, Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi.

Trevor Chalobah has so far been impressive at Selhurst Park, making 14 appearances across all competitions and scoring an impressive three goals as a defender. Palace boss Oliver Glasner previously expressed concern about the possibility of Chelsea recalling Chalobah, given his vital contributions to the team..

Chalobah will not be involved for Crystal Palace game against Leicester City on Wednesday night, after having also missed the FA Cup victory over Stockport County.

Chelsea fans will hope that Chalobah’s return helps stabilize the defense as the club tackles a challenging phase of the season. The return of Chalobah means Axel Disasi can depart Chelsea.

The defender is more than happy to return to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea will still consider a sale this summer should the player wish to leave permanently, meaning the player knows returning to Chelsea doesn’t stop an exit at the end of the season.
