Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith has overtaken Irish chef Alan Fisher to become the Guinness World Record holder for longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Chef Smith started his cook-a-thon journey on February 1, 2024 made this announcement at a press conference at the La Palm Beach Hotel today, Tuesday, July 2.
According to him, he is deeply humbled and honored for making this dream come through.
“Ladies and gentlement, distinguished guests, members of the media, follow Ghanaians, today is a day I will forever remember, I am deeply humbled and honored to stand before you today as the Guinness World Record program, cooking for 802 hours and 25 minutes. My heart is overflowing with joy and gratitude for making this dream come through.” Chef Smith said.
He explained that he cooked for 820 hours and 25 minutes but the Guinness World Record with their own calculation gave him 802 hours and 25 minutes.
“Same through channel, same through media, I got my notification and my approval. My certificate and also to let me know how many hours I have done which we apparently did 820 hours and 25 minutes but then with their own calculation they gave us 802 hours and 25 minutes.” He explained.
Chef Smith’s record certificate sighted by Elvisanokyenews.com reads: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Irish chef Alan Fisher cooked for an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan according to Guinness World Record but Ghanaian Chef Smith’s 820 hours and 25 minutes made him the current holder of longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Chef Smith’s cook-a-thon attempt followed by Ghanaian chef, Failatu, who was declared unsuccessful by the Guinness World Record.
Many Ghanaians gained the interest to embark on GWR attempts after Afua Asantewa Owusu Aduomi received massive support from Ghanaians during her sing-a-thon attempt.
