The Cape Coast Sports Stadium, is set to host Ghana’s third 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.
Ghana’s senior national men football team will play home to Sudan at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the Central Region after fears of playing that game home away from home.
The Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which has been hosting the Black Stars in recent games was banned from hosting the Black Stars for the qualifiers due to its unplayable surface.
However, Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, facilitated an inspection exercise for CAF to inspect both the Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
Per reports from multiple sources, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the Cape Coast Sports Stadium to host the game between Ghana and Sudan.
Ghana will play the first leg against Sudan on Friday, October 11, 2024 before traveling to Libya to face Sudan for the second leg on Monday, October 14, 2024.
The Black Stars of Ghana, have had a difficult start of the qualifiers, loosing 1 and drawing 1 in their first two games.
They lost their opening game 1:0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before being held to a 1:1 draw against Niger in Berkane.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew its approval of Baba Yara Sports Stadium due to poor football facilities.
“The most important point is that we could have spent $250,000 to fix Baba Yara. $150,000 could do that but because our people are corrupt let me add $100,000. Now, if we fly them to Morocco, you will need to board a flight like $450,000, to play away again. A game that could have been played at home. Then we have another chartered flight at a cost of around $500,000, so the flight and feedings, hotels will cost around $600,000 but we could have fixed the Baba Yara Stadium with $250,000 permanently.” Saddick Adams lamented.
