President of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of Basa Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Sakyi III, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize peace and stability as the country gears towards the 2024 general elections.
Nana Owusu Sakyi III, made this assertion during the final meeting of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs at the Nana Kramo Community Center at Bamiri in the Techiman South Metropolitan Assembly.
According to him, the elections won’t be the end of the world as “life must still go on after the election” so there is the need to tolerate the views of each other and prevent electoral violence at all cost.
“We usually conduct our last meeting of the year in the month of December but due to the upcoming elections, we decided to have our final meeting in November in order to advice the good people of Bono East and Ghanaians at large on the need prioritize peace ahead of the elections.
“After the elections, life must go on, so on behalf of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, I am pleading with all and sundry to avoid anything that will threaten the peace and stability of the country because we have only one Ghana and we must protect our country at all cost.” He advised.
Nana Owusu Sakyi III, stressed on the importance of maintaining peace in the region. He urged the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media to conduct themselves in a professional and responsible manner before, during, and after the election.
Nana also called on all Chiefs in the region to educate their people on the need of peace and peaceful coexistence in their various communities.
“I will plead with our chiefs to at least organize a durbar before the elections and educate their people on peace and peaceful coexistence before, during, and after the elections. Elections is not about fighting, let’s look at the just ended elections in the USA, there was no violence and we pray that our youth and citizenry will learn from that.
“The Electoral Commission must be fair and transparent to all the contesting candidates, the security agencies in the country, the media, including all other stakeholders should be diligent in executing their duties before, during, and after the elections.” He said.
