The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, has called on traditional authorities across the country, particularly those in the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions, to make lands readily available for women in agriculture.
According to him, acquiring land for farming remains one of the major challenges facing women, especially those engaged in cocoa farming. He therefore called on traditional authorities to assist women in that regard.
”I would like to appeal to our traditional leaders to make lands readily available for farming, especially for women. Most of the time, acquiring land for farming is quite challenging. I therefore urge our traditional leaders present to liaise with the Regional House of Chiefs to make farming lands available for our cocoa farmers.
Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, made this passionate appeal during the Conference of the Brong and Ahafo Women Cooperative Cocoa Farming and Marketing Central Union Limited (BAWCOF), where he commended the association for its continued dedication to women’s empowerment through cooperative farming.
He disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his satisfaction with the association’s efforts in cocoa production and encouraged them to continue their commendable work.
“It is not easy for individuals to come together and form an association. However, when we do, we gain the strength to achieve greater things together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the executives of BAWCOF for their good work. The President of the Republic of Ghana is also pleased with the efforts of the Brong Ahafo Women Cooperative Farming and Marketing Union.”
Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi seized the opportunity to appeal to the government, through the Minister of Food and Agriculture, to support the Brong and Ahafo Women Cooperative Cocoa Farming and Marketing Central Union Limited (BAWCOF) with finances and farm inputs in order to increase and improve their yields.
”I also appeal to the government, through the Minister of Food and Agriculture, to support BAWCOF financially and with farming inputs to make their work easier.”
