Bono East Deputy Police Commander engages Ghana Journalists Association over peace and safety collaboration

The Bono East Deputy Police Commander, ACP Stephen Boadu, has held a cordial engagement with members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the region, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the police and the media in promoting peace and security.

The meeting, which took place over a friendly dinner, provided an opportunity for ACP Boadu to familiarize himself with members of the regional press corps and to discuss practical ways the two institutions can work together to enhance law enforcement, responsible reporting, and community safety.

In his remarks, ACP Stephen Boadu commended journalists in the region for their continuous efforts in educating the public, promoting accountability, and helping to maintain social order. He noted that the police service values the media as a critical partner in ensuring public safety, and therefore, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation was essential.

He also encouraged journalists to verify security-related information before publication to avoid spreading fear or misinformation that could escalate tensions.

“I strongly believe that we can achieve more when the police and the media work hand in hand. Our shared goal is to protect lives, maintain peace, and build trust within our communities.

“The office of the Bono East Police Command is widely open to journalists within the region to share information with the police for the betterment of our community and region.”

The interaction followed ACP Boadu’s recent courtesy visit to the Muslim community in Techiman, where he engaged religious leaders on issues of security and peaceful coexistence. His back-to-back engagements underscore his commitment to building stronger ties between the police and various stakeholders in the region.

Members of the GJA, led by their regional executives, expressed appreciation to the Deputy Commander for the initiative and assured him of the association’s readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting accurate and responsible journalism for the common good of the region.

The Bono East GJA Secretary, Anas Sabit, urged members of the association not to withhold relevant information from the Police Command, stressing on the need for mutual respect and cooperation.

He also encouraged journalists to accord due respect to the office of ACP Stephen Boadu as they work together to promote peace and security in the region.

“We cannot build a safer society without mutual trust between the media and the police, as journalists, we must be open with the Police Command and share relevant information that supports public safety. At the same time, we should show respect to the office of ACP Stephen Boadu and the work the police do to protect our region.”
