The Senior National Football Men’s team of Ghana, the Black Stars, have managed to secure only 1 point out of possible 6 points in the ongoing 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars got the point after drawing 1:1 with the Ménas of Niger in match day of the qualifiers at the Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco.
Ghana had earlier lost at home to Angola when the Palancas Negras on last Thursday, 5th September, 2024, broke Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten record at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium, by recording a 1:0 win over the “African Brazils.”
In the game against Niger, Otto Addo made two changes to the Black Stars’ starting lineup that lost to Angola last Thursday with Majeed Ashimeru and Inaki Williams coming in for Elisha Owusu and Jordan Ayew.
Alidu Seidu opened the scoring in the 44th minute of the game after which the Black Stars created numerous opportunities but failed to capitalized on any of them.
With 10 minutes to go, Oumar Sako levelled the score for the Mena after a scramble in the Black Stars box.
The remainder of the match saw both teams a winner, but neither was able to find the back of the net. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, giving the Black Stars a crucial point in the AFCOn qualifiers.
The draw leaves the Black Stars with three points from two matches, placing them in a difficult position to advance to the final tournament in Morocco
Their next match will be against the Falcons of Jediane of Sudan on Monday, 7th October 2024.
