Bawumia promises to upgrade national stadia pitches

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party and Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, sayst if voted into power, his government will upgrade the country’s football stadia pitches to meet the international standards.

Dr Bawumia hopes to attract more international sporting events and competitions, thereby boosting the country’s profile in the global sports community hence his plan to upgrade the pitches .

Moreover, the upgraded facilities will provide local athletes and teams with better training conditions, helping to nurture talent and promote the growth of sports in the country. This initiative is also expected to attract foreign investors and sports enthusiasts, who will be drawn to the improved infrastructure and the country’s growing sports scene.

The Vice President made this commitment during the launch of the party’s 2024 election manifesto at the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

“We will, ladies and gentlemen, also upgrade the surfaces of our weak football pitches, to meet the highest international standards.

“So we will be seeing the upgrading of the stadiums in Kumasi, Accra, Cape Coast, Tamale and Essipong to make sure that they meet the highest international standards.” He told the crowd.

The Promise by Dr. Bawumia to upgrade the pitches of Ghana national stadia, comes at the back of criticism of the current state of national stadiums, including the Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Cape Coast Sports Stadium, and Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, with regards to the poor condition of playing surfaces.

The NPP led government has already constructed and commissioned over 150 Astroturf pitches across the country while the construction of Multipurpose sports complexes are ongoing in some parts of the country to boost sporting activities.

Dr. Bawuma further promised that the next NPP government will continue the construction of Astroturf in all constituencies.

“We will continue the construction of Astroturf for every constituency to boos the development of our talents including juvenile football, we have increased Astroturf from the 3 that we inherited to over 150
