The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, has called on Traditional Leaders in the region and Ghana as a whole to put measures in place to revive traditional cultural practices in country.
Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, in an interview with the media stressed that, traditional leaders have a crucial role to play in revitalizing moral cultural practices which have been integral to Ghanaian society for centuries.
The Minister is of the view that, the community can be cleansed of negative influences and restored to its former glory by reviving moral cultural practices such as puberty rites (Bragoro) and “Kyiribra.
“We have a lot of cultures that we have abandoned which shouldn’t be so. Rites such as puberty rite (Bragoro) and Kyiribra were very unique when were growing up.
“These were some of the cultural rites that helped to sanitize our society against social vices especially teenage pregnancy but we are no longer practicing them and it is very worrying.” He said
The minister pointed out that modernization and globalization have led to the erosion of traditional values and customs, resulting in a decline in moral standards. He encouraged traditional leaders to work closely with other stakeholders to educate the younger generations about the importance of preserving their cultural heritage.
“I will encourage our traditional leaders to reintroduce such cultural practices that promotes morality in our societies in order for us to grow as total Africans and prevent the rampant increase of social vices and immorality in our communities.” He told our reporter.
