The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that the party can only sign the peace pact ahead of the 2024 general elections unless the state fulfills some conditions.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia widely known as General Mosquito during a meeting with the National Peace Council presented the six conditions for the NDC to sign the peace pact:

The NDC stated that:

1. Full implementation of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Commission’s recommendations.

“We believe that the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident, there was a commission, there were recommendations. The recommendations have not been implemented so far. Condition number 1 is that let us see the full implementation of the Ayawaso West Wuogon incident.” He said.

2. Prosecution of those responsible for the killings during the 2020 election.

“We want to see initiation of prosecution in respect of the perpetrators of the killings in Techiman South. Ablekuma Central, Banda, and Odododiodio” General Mosquito indicated.

3. Prosecution of individuals involved in the illegal printing of ballot papers.

“Initiation of prosecution in respect of the illegal printing and handling of about one million ballot papers that were intercepted and were destroyed by the police.” The party chairman stressed.

4. Transparent, honest, and public addressing of the missing equipment at the EC’s office, satisfactory to the general public.

Adding that “The Electoral Commission has not been opened to us, we suspect that the equipment is not missing and they have been hidden for a specific agenda.”

5. A public declaration by the President to accept the will of the people in the 2024 general elections.

“And we want the president to declare openly on the state platform that he will respect the will of the people and that he will accept the outcome of the 2024 general elections.”

6. Signature of Chief Justice, Attorney General, IGP, others

“We want to see the IGP signing to that document, we want to see the Chief Justice signing to that document, we want to see the Attorney General signing to that document and we want to see the National Security coordinator signing to that document. If all of them sign, and the monitoring group commits itself to the policy of naming and shaming publicly then we have our way forward.” Asiedu Nketia stated.
