The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), John Kapi, says the 2025 WASSCE results are a true reflection of candidates’ performance, despite the noticeable drop in pass rates compared to previous years.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Monday, in an interview monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com , Mr. Kapi admitted that this year’s performance figures mark a sharp break from recent trends.
He explained that while WAEC consistently conducts examinations and releases results according to standard procedures, the 2025 outcome clearly differs from what has been recorded in recent years.
Mr. Kapi said past years have generally recorded high pass rates across all subjects, but the story is different this year.
“As an examining body, would always conduct examinations and put out results as expected. What we’ve seen this year obviously is a departure from the figures that you are seeing, a departure from what we have been seeing.
“That is to say that there has been quite a high pass rate in all the subjects but in this year, unfortunately, we have a smaller number passing.”
According to him WAEC has carried out all necessary checks and verifications to ensure the credibility of the results.
“Well, we have done all our tests, we’ve looked at everything, and on our part, it’s a true reflection of the performance of the candidates.”
