AUDIO: How Immigration Officers slapped Information Service Director for looking like a Fulani

The Upper West Regional Director of the Information Service Department, Mr Sinto Nuhu Mustapha has recounted how some officers of the Ghana Immigration Service seized his money and slapped him for not looking like a Ghanaian but a Fulani (Fulbe).

‎He revealed that while in a Wa-bound bus, some officers who were conducting routine checks, accused him of being a Fulani, a non-Ghanaian, even though he had shown them his National Identification card( Ghana Card) that showed clearly that he was Ghanaian.

‎The officers seized his cash and asked the driver of the vehicle that he could proceed with the journey. But he wouldn’t allow them go with his cash. So when he insisted that the cash be returned but this resulted in him being slapped.

‎”They searched the rest and picked their monies and asked them to go and said the driver can go. So I didn’t understand and went to them and said I didn’t understand. ” You have picked my money. If I get to Wa, how will I feed? How will I proceed to my destination? So one of them slapped me. I didn’t utter a word but I picked his name, ” Mr Sinto recounted in an interview

‎He added that later, when it came to light that he was the Director of the Information Service, his cash was returned, but he lamented the constant harassment of Fulanis in the country from security agencies such as the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana Police Service.
