Ghanaian football giants, Asante Kotoko, are set to return to competitive action after Thursday, March 6, 2025, following the final burial rites of the late Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The Porcupine Warriors officially suspended all senior team activities related to the pitch following the unfortunate incident that led to the death of their devoted supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley
In an official statement, the club expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and stressed on the need to suspend all footballing activities of the senior team for thorough investigation. However, with one Brimah being identified as the person responsible for Pooley’s death and currently being pursued by the Ghana Police Service, the Kumasi based club, who initially, reiterated their strong stance of not to return to football until perpetrators are punished, has expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the investigation into the matter.
During a press conference held early on Monday, 24th February, 2025, Head of Public Relations Lawyer Sarfo Duku, confirmed that Kotoko will resume action after the burial of Nana Pooley.
With the final funeral rites scheduled for March 6, Kotoko is expected to resume competitive action soon after, as they look to regain momentum in their domestic and continental campaigns.
“I would like to declare that, based on the happenings, Asante Kotoko shall be ready and willingly to return to the pitch after the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley.
“Secondly, we are all under CAF and very soon, the GFA will be compelled to submit the participants for next year’s so there are timelines. We have thought it wise that, while we continue to seek justice for our brother, the league and therefore football activities can move on and we are fully prepared.” Lawyer Sarfo Duku stated.
Asante Kotoko’s return is expected to be emotional, with players and supporters determined to dedicate their performances to the legacy of their fallen fan.
Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, disclosed that the best way to honor the memory of Nana Pooley is to secure the league title in his name.
“His loss is deeply painful, but the best way to honor his memory is by working hard, winning games, and ultimately securing the league title in his name. It won’t be easy, but we must stay united, focused, and determined to get the results.”
