Deaconess Mary Adu, a seasoned seamstress with over 30 years of experience, has urged fellow artisans to be prayerful and trust in God as they ply their respective trades.
In an interview with Bro. Kwaku on Elvis Anokye TV on YouTube, the 51-year-old, explained the spiritual challenges and dangers that can accompany working in skilled trades, while stressing on the importance of faith and prayer for protection.
According to Deaconess Adu, artisans often face unseen spiritual battles that can manifest in various forms, ranging from negative influences to mysterious setbacks. She shared her own experiences of encountering spiritual opposition throughout her career, including instances of spiritual attacks and strange occurrences around her shop.
She narrated how a woman approached her with an offer to help expand her business by sending her to an unknown place for spiritual guidance, and how the woman tried to disgrace her when she refused the offer.
“I used to hang the dresses that I had sewn in my shop. One day, a woman visited and, upon seeing the dresses, began praising me. She offered to help expand my business and promised to take me to a place where I could find more customers. However, I turned down her offer, telling her that I depend on God and believe that in His time, He will expand my business. The woman became angry and started making a scene.
“She began attracting attention and told the crowd that I had ruined a cloth and I couldn’t utter a word, so I bowed my head and began praying while crying. When I lifted my head, the woman was nowhere to be found, and I haven’t seen her again since.” She said.
Deaconess Mary Adu further revealed that there were times when she would come to work and find feces and blood sprinkled around her shop. She also recounted an incident when a cloth she was supposed to work on turned into a snake.
“There was a time when, every time I came to work, I would find feces in front of my shop. Sometimes, people would sprinkle blood around it. This continued for about six months. Whenever I encountered these things, I would fast and pray over them. By God’s grace, I was blessed with my first apprentice, who was also a strong Christian. Together, we prayed and overcame those spiritual challenges.
“10 years ago, a woman brought a cloth to me to sew. On the day she brought it, I had to go for prayers. The following day, when I opened the cloth to work on it, it turned into a snake. I prayed over it, and it returned to its original form as a cloth.
“I finished sewing the dress and gave it to the woman. She was truly surprised when she came to collect it. I didn’t even charge her, and since then, that woman has never looked at me the same way again.” She said.
