ANNK backs TMPC Registrar, rejects calls for his removal

A traditional medicine practitioners association, Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo (ANNK), has expressed its support for the Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC), Dr. Michael Kyeremateng amidst calls for his removal.

ANNK is of the view that, the calls  for Dr. Kyeremateng’s removal are being orchestrated by another traditional medicine practitioner association with political motivations.

Addressing the media in a press briefing at Techiman – Site, the Public Relations Officer for Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo, Mr. Alhassan Jibril Konate, strongly opposed calls for Dr. Kyeremateng’s removal and praised him for his exceptional efforts in reforming the TMPC.

Mr. Konate highlighted four major achievements of Dr. Michael Kyeremateng in the areas of digital transformation, revenue mobilization, combating fake licenses, and the development of a website to enhance TMPC’s operations.

  • Digital Transformation: The registrar has leveraged digital technology to reduce corruption and increase transparency within the council.
  • Improved Revenue Management: The registrar has ensured that revenues are properly accounted for and channeled into government accounts.
  • Reducing Fake Licenses: Dr. Kyeremateng has introduced measures to curb the operation of fake license holders, ensuring that only qualified practitioners provide traditional medicine services.
  • Website Development: Dr. Kyeremateng has created a website for the Traditional Medicine Practice Council, facilitating access to information and potential partnerships with international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO)

Mr. Alhassan said, “The new Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC), Dr. Michael Kyeremateng, has been doing very well so far as his duties as the registrar is concerned, so we don’t know why any association will push from his removal from office.

“We want to alert the association behind the removal of Dr. Kyeremateng to know that they are not the only traditional medicine practitioners association in the country. There are other traditional medicine practitioners associations that fully support Dr. Kyeremateng for his good works.”

He further disclosed that the office of Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council is not a political office and therefore call on the government not to entertain calls from other association calling for the removal of Dr. Michael Kyeremateng as such calls are politically motivated.

“We at Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo mantains that the office of the registrar is not a political position and should not be subject to changes in government. The organization urges the government to maintain Dr. Kyeremateng in his position.” He stated

On his part, the National President of ANNK, Nana Adjei, urged members of the association and other traditional medicine practitioners to support Dr. Kyeremateng and encouraged them to renew their licenses when due, as this contributes to national revenue and development..

“It is very bad for an association to advice its members not to renew their license and such advices are unfortunate. We at ANNK believes in the Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council and therefore I will entreat all members of ANNK and any other traditional medicine practitioner to renew their license when the time is due.

“We all expert the government to develop the country but if we fail to renew our TMPC license then how are we as traditional medicine practitioners helping the government to develop the country?” He said.

He also appealed to the government to simplify the process of registering herbal medicines in the country.

“We would like to plead to the government to ease the processes involve in registration our products.” Nana Adjei
