Mr. Kwadwo Adjei, popularly known as Kwadwo Cocaine, has raised concerns over what he describes as questionable revenue mobilization practices at the Techiman Central Market, calling for an urgent investigation into the matter.

Addressing a press conference in Techiman, Mr. Adjei disclosed that he was appointed by the Municipal Chief Executive of Techiman South, Hon. Kwaku Adjei Mensah, as the Revenue Task Force Leader at the Techiman Central Market, where he implemented measures aimed at improving and safeguarding revenue collection.

According to him, the interventions he introduced within a short period led to a significant increase in market revenue, demonstrating the effectiveness of the task force under his leadership.

“Something questionable is ongoing regarding revenue mobilization at the Techiman Central Market, and this press conference has been organized to bring those issues to public attention.

“When the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwaku Adjei Mensah, appointed me as the Revenue Task Force Leader at the Techiman Central Market, I introduced several measures to improve and safeguard revenue collection. Within a short period, these measures significantly increased market revenue.”

However, Mr. Adjei alleged that challenges began when he realized that the Revenue Superintendent and the Market Manager had allegedly connived and started working against him. He stated that this situation later resulted in what he described as a wrongful accusation that he had stolen an amount of GH¢800.00, an allegation he said compelled the Bono East Regional Minister to invite him to respond to the matter.

“However, I later realized that the Revenue Superintendent and the Market Manager had allegedly connived and begun working against me. Subsequently, I was wrongfully accused of stealing an amount of GH¢800.00, an issue that led to my invitation by the Bono East Regional Minister to respond to the allegation.”

He further revealed that despite working at the market for eight months and being issued an official appointment letter by the Techiman Municipal Assembly, he has not received any salary or allowance. He added that the appointment letter indicated that he was to be paid the same allowance as other members of the task force, even though he served as the team leader.

Mr. Kwadwo Adjei explained that when he visited the Assembly to inquire about the non-payment of his remuneration, the Municipal Chief Executive informed him that he had directed the Market Manager not to pay him on the grounds that he was not actively working. He insisted that this claim is inaccurate and does not reflect the work he carried out at the market.

“I have worked at the market for eight months without receiving any salary, despite being issued an official appointment letter by the Municipal Assembly. Even in that letter, the Assembly indicated that I was to be paid the same allowance as other task force members, despite my position as the team leader.

“Upon visiting the Assembly to inquire about the non-payment of my remuneration, I was informed by the Municipal Chief Executive that he had directed the Market Manager not to pay me on the grounds that I had not been working. This claim, however, is not accurate.”

Expressing strong dissatisfaction with his treatment, Mr. Adjei stated that he believes the actions against him stem from his refusal to allow the alleged misappropriation of market revenue. He said he suspects the Market Manager and the Revenue Superintendent of acting against him and further alleged that the Municipal Chief Executive may be complicit in the matter.

“I strongly believe that I am being treated in this manner because I refused to allow the misappropriation of market revenue in my capacity as task force leader. I therefore suspect the Market Manager and the Revenue Superintendent of acting against me, and I further suspect that the Municipal Chief Executive may be complicit in these actions.”

Through the press conference, Kwadwo Cocaine formally called on the Bono East Regional Minister to, as a matter of urgency, institute a thorough investigation into the management of revenue at the Techiman Central Market, saying such a probe would help restore transparency and accountability in the Assembly’s revenue administration.

“Through this press conference, I am formally calling on the Bono East Regional Minister to, as a matter of urgency, institute a thorough investigation into the management of revenue at the Techiman Central Market”
