The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu, delivered an emotional address during the grand durbar of the Odwira Festival in Akuapem.
In her speech, she expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of six Ghanaian women who lost their lives in a stampede during a recent military screening exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
She described the incident as painful, dangerous, and disastrous, noting that the young women were simply seeking employment opportunities to serve their nation.
“It is heartbreaking that lives were lost while these young women were pursuing opportunities to contribute to the development of our country. This incident is both tragic and avoidable.”
Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called on the community to support them during this difficult period. She also led the gathering in observing a minute of silence in honour of the deceased, highlighting the need for safety measures during such national exercises.
The MP urged authorities to take proactive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety of all citizens participating in public events and national activities.
