Some Residents of Abokobi in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency of the Greater Accra region, who vote at the Abokobi Women’s Development Center 2 polling station, say they are ready to vote massively for Elikplim Akurugu as their next Member of Parliament.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana on last Saturday, 28th December, 2024, announced that the results of the December 7th elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Center 2 polling station had been invalidated. According to the Electoral Commission (EC), the reason for nullifying the results at the Abokobi Women’s Development Center 2 polling station is due to the fact that the election results was recorded on an incorrect sheet instead of the required pink sheet.

The EC has since called for a rerun of the parliamentary election in that polling station, which will ultimately decides the next Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency

Speaking with some residents of Abokobi who vote at the said polling station, they explained that, they are ready to vote once again with most of them declaring their support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Elikplim Akurugu.

A resident, who spoke with our reporter said “we  all witnessed when the results were announced by the returning officer so we were thinking that if there should be an issue, it would have been resolved by the court but since they said we should do a rerun, we are all for it.”

Another resident urged the New Patriotic Party to accept the results of the election and concede defeat. He accused the NPP for neglecting the needs of the constituents despite voting for the party since 1996 hence the reason they voted against them in the 2024 elections.

“We have a reason why we voted against Michael Oquay because you see the mentality that he’s using is poor mentality. The reason why I say it’s poor mentality is that you can’t come and give me something to lure me to vote for you.

“I want to tell those in the NPP that the people have already decided, I vote in that polling station and I can confidently say that if we do the rerun for 10 times, the NPP will lose, the man has lost the seat and they should accept it.

“We have been voting for them since 1996, they have not done anything significant for us in this constituency so they should simply accept the results and move on.” He said.

After collation was completed without the Abokobi Women’s Development Center 2 polling station, the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, gained 50,732 votes while NPP’s Mike Oquaye Jnr had 50567 votes

A total of 669 voters are expected to participate in the rerun of the parliamentary elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Center 2 polling station.
