Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son Elred Salifu Amoako’s travelling documents have been withheld by the Accra Juvenile and Family court.

The court also remanded the 16-year-old suspect driver involved in the fatal East Legon accident.

The accident which occurred on 12th October 2024, claimed two lives.

“The 16-year-old suspect driver involved in the fatal East Legon accident which occurred on 12th October 2024, claiming two lives has been remanded into custody by the Accra Juvenile and Family court.” The Ghana Police Service said this in a press release on Friday, 1st November, 2024.

“The court further ordered that the Juvenile’s travelling documents be deposited with the court.” The release added.

Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son was put before the court on Friday, 1st November 2024, on eight counts of Manslaughter.

“The suspect, Elred Salifu Amoako was put before the court today, 1st November 2024, on eight counts including the offence of Manslaughter.” Part of the statement read.

According to the Police press release, the suspect will reappear on 7th November, 2024.

“He was subsequently remanded by the court to a Correction Centre to reappear on 7th November 2024.” The release said.

The fatal accident generated a lot of reactions among Ghanaians.

Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife  Mouha Amoako were arrested on Tuesday, October 15 and were charged with permitting an unlicensed person to drive following the accident.

The High Court in Accra subsequently granted bail to the couple with the sum of ¢50k bail each.

While some are pleading for leniency for the Bishop and his family, others are calling for a severe punishment for the suspect Elred Salifu Amoako to serve as a deterrent to others.
