Amidst calls from sections of Ghanaians that former Black Stars Coach, Kwesi Appiah should be called back to lead the National Team again, circumstances that led to the dismissal of the current Sudan coach have emerged.
According to a report, the Ghana Football Association defied President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s advice to maintain him (Kwesi Appiah) as the Black Stars coach.
Sompa FM’s journalist, Collin Atta Poku alleged that the GFA president Kurt Okraku and President Akufo-Addo held a meeting at the Jubilee House in 2020 and advised him to give Kwesi Appiah a one-year contract extension because his contract ran out but he refused.
“During the meeting, he asked the president to give him some time for consultation, upong return, Kurt said he can not heed to that advice.” Atta Poku claimed.
“It was Kurt Okraku who sacked Kwesi Appiah because he told a GFA Exco member after the meeting that the president wanted to impose Kwesi Appiah on him but he rejected.”
Atta Poku is not the Sports Journalist who has made this allegation.
Peace FM’s Dan Kwaku Yeboah earlier said the government was not in support of the GFA decision to sack Kwesi Appiah when his contract ended.
Some believe GFA president, Kurt Okraku is the major problem of the Black Stars.
Their comments come after gospel musician Sonnie Badu outlined spiritual measures to help the Black Stars back on track.
According to him, the only thing the Black Stars can do to restore the past glory is to bring back Kwesi Appiah.
“@ghana_fa_official, I can tell you for free that this was a painful win for my friend. Let’s swallow our pride and bring him back! This is more spiritual than physical, and if you think football isn’t spiritual, just hear me out—anything controlled by the wind definitely has mysteries. Get him back!!” He wrote.
