The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah’s application to seek the court intervention to overturn the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify him from contesting in the upcoming presidential election has been rejected by the High Court.

Bernard Mornah’s application was to challenge the Electoral Commission decision which was based on his nomination forms.

But the court ruling on Monday, October 21, is a big blow to Bernard Mornah and his party just weeks ahead of the December polls.

Speaking to the media after the court ruling, Bernard Mornah stated that his intention and vision to become the president of Ghana has not been postponed.

According to him, the Electoral Commission actions and inaction clearly shows the attempt by some people to undermine multi-party democracy

“Let me thank the team who has always been here to support me. Clearly, it appears that some attempt to undermine multi-party democracy. What my Lawyer has just said is testimony that the government of our issue was not looked at by the Judge. We came to court on exhibit 4, we only drew attention on exhibit 2 which was written on the 13th indicating specific pages that the Electoral Commission claimed were incomplete particulars of our supporters.” He said.

“When the Electoral Commission dre our attention to those specific pages, we corrected them and resummited it. What is in contention is that exhibit 4 came from the Electoral Commission indicating that we were disqualified based on the detection of several errors or omissions. As a Journalist, what is your definition of several errors and omissions? What is the type of error are they talking about? Is it a data entering error? Is it an error of composition? What type of errors are they talking about?

“And why were those errors not brought to us? Now if you run to court and you are talking about look alike signatures, look alike signatures can not be several errors, they are defined.”
