The Vice President and Presidential Candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has mocked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the majority in Parliament.
He said the NDC has become the only political party in Ghana who manufactured a majority in Parliament and ruled for only 24-hours, the shortest in the history of Ghana.
Speaking at a rally at Nkawkaw, Dr. Bawumia stated that the majority in parliament is won at the constituencies and the polling station not at the Parliament house.
“It is important to vote for Dr. Bawumia and it is also imperative to vote for Joseph Frimpong because we need Majority in Parliament. As it stands now, there are 137 MPs for both the NPP and the NDC. Three day ago, they (NDC) did something in Parliament and claimed they are the majority, anyway, they had a 24-hour majority in Parliament, the shortest living majority that I know of in history.” He said.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the NPP will win a decisive majority in parliament if an election is held today.
“I want the NDC to understand that if you want a majority in Parliament, come to the constituency, come to the polling station, win an election and then go to parliament. You can not sit in parliament to manufacture a majority for yourself. We will meet them in the constituencies, we will meet them at the polling stations. And I can assure you from what I know, I have visited over 200 constituencies, I have campaigned on the ground, I have seen the data and I can assure you that if elections are held today, the NPP will have a decisive majority in Parliament.” He added.
His comment follows a declaration made by the Speaker of Parliament that 4 Members of Parliament who are contesting as Independent seats are vacant.
The NPP MPs subsequently ran to the Supreme Court for intervention and the court ruled in favor of the NPP to maintain their position as the majority in parliament, pending final decision.
