The Paramount of Nkyeraa Traditional Area, Oseneakofena Tabiri Yaw III and the entire people of Wenchi Nkyeraa, will on Saturday, 19th October, 2024, will climax the celebrations of this year’s Fofie Yam Festival.

This year’s celebrations, started with a cleanup exercise through the principal streets of Nkyeraa and followed by a football gala between the youth within Nkyeraa and its environ.

Speaking with the Public Relations Officer of the organizing committee, Obour Afriam Nakus, he explained that, the Yam Festival is a very important festival for the people of Bono of which Nkyeraa is part.

According to him, the Yam Festival is an annual festival which serves as a reminder of the importance of agriculture and the bounty of the land. The festival, according to him is also a time for the people of Nkyeraa and the Bono people to come together, strengthen bonds, and give thanks for the fruits of their labor and officially pave way for them to eat yam.

“Yam Festival is an important festival for the chiefs and people in the Bono communities, we can trace the origin of the Yam Festival from Bonomanso and Techiman, and since the Paramount Chief of Nyeraa Traditional Area  by tradition is the son of the Paramount Chief of Techiman, he and his people always give much reference to the celebrations of the Yam Festival.

“It is an annual festival in Nkyeraa and our Traditional Council wants to use this year’s Yam Festival to campaign for peace since we are in an election year and aside that, we can only develop our community when we have peace.” He said

Obour Afriam Nakus, highlighted on some of the activities that have and will take place as part of the festival. He also touched on the dignitaries that will grace the grand durbar on Saturday, 19th October, 2024.

“The celebrations started on 16th October, 2024 and we will end it on 20th October, 2024. We started with a cleanup exercise through the principal streets of Nkyeraa, we have organized a football gala which is a local derby for the youth in Nkyeraa and its surrounding environments.

“There will be a traditions and customs education on the Fofie Yam Festival before a grand durbar. There will be a lot of cultural display during the grand durbar.

“We have invited a lot of dignitaries to grace the occasion, the Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area who is the custodian father of the Chief of Nkyeraa will be gracing the occasion, the Member of Parliament for Wenchi, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Wenchi including many other dignitaries will be coming.

Dormahene and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs Osagyefo Agyeman Badu II, will be our Chairman of the occasion and we invite all and sundry to join us as we celebrates this year’s Fofie Yam Festival.
