The Chief of Offuman in the Techiman North District of the Bono East region, Daasebre Ofori Gyan, has called for unity and harmony among the people of Offuman.

Daasebre Ofori Gyan, made this call during the celebration of this years Yansu Yam Festival. The ancient tradition, steeped in rich cultural heritage, brought together individuals from all walks of life to give thanks to the gods for the blessings of life and the bounty of the land.

Addressing the gathering, Daasebre Ofori Gyan Nyansu Adepanin, stressed that the Yam Festival is not only a celebration of their rich cultural heritage but also an opportunity for the community to bond and work towards a common goal.

He encouraged everyone to put aside their differences and work together to address the challenges facing their beloved community.

“We are not celebrating the yam festival for celebrations sake, this festival gives us the opportunity to come together as a community, discuss issues that will promote the development of our community and seek for peace and unity in Offuman.” He said.

Daasebre Ofori Gyan, ceased the occasion to narrate a brief history about the celebration of the yam festival in Offuman.

“River Yensu is the head of Offuman, River Yensu is the owner and supreme power of our community, in the olden days, our forefathers realized that yam is a very precious commodity.

“So they decided to bring some of their harvested yams to the River before they will start to eat or sell it, so every year, we bring some of our harvested yam to River Yensu before we the people of Offuman can eat yam.

“In the olden days, the Fetish Priest of Yensu was also the chief of the community, but as time goes by, our forefathers realized that the Fetish Priest was being burdened with a lot of responsibilities, so a chief was enstooled to run the day to day activities of the community.” He explained.

According to him, by coming together, the people of Offuman can share ideas, resources, and experiences to find solutions to their problems. He said unity and cooperation are essential for the community’s growth and development.
