Bono East Regional House of Chiefs elects new President, Vice President

The Bono East Regional House of Chiefs has elected new executives to lead the association for the next four years.

The elections, marked the end of the tenure of the current  executives which was led by the Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, Pimapim Yaw Kagbrese V, was conducted at the Baamire Yaw Kramo Community Center in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East region and was attended by all 14 active members out of the 19 paramountcy in the region.

The elections, was conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with all members of the House of Chiefs participating in the voting process. The newly elected President and Vice President will serve as the leaders of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs, representing the interests of the various communities and ethnic groups within the region for the next four years.

The Paramount Chief of the Yeji Traditional Area, Pimampim Yaw Kagrese V was contested by his Vice President, the Paramount Chief of Basa Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Sakyi III for the presidency position.

The Paramount Chief of Abaase Traditional Area, Nana Oprempong Kru Taky II and Tuobodommanhene, Nana Agyei Kokoo Takyifri Beyeeman contested for the Vice Presidency,

During the presidential elections, there were a total of 13 valid vote cast as one of the votes was rejected. Yejimanhene, Pimampim Yaw Kagrese V, got 5 out of the valid vote cast losing to Bassamanhene, Nana Owusu Sakyi III, who got 8 of the valid vote cast.

Out of the 14 valid vote cast during the Vice Presidential elections, Nana Obrempong Kru Takyi II, the Abaasemanhene, got 10 of the votes while Tuobodommanhene, Nana Agyei Kokoo Takyifri Beyeeman got 4 votes.

Addressing the house after the elections, Pimampim Yaw Kagrese V, throwed his full support to the newly elected President and Vice President.

He congratulated Nana Owusu Sakyi III and promised to fully support him to make his presidency a success for the betterment of the house and the Bono East region.

“We went to the polls to select new executives as mandated by the constitution, I contested again with my Vice President and he won of which he deserves it. I congratulate him for winning the elections.

“He devoted his time in supporting me during my tenure of office and I will support him to become successful and move our region forward, we are the first House to vote in the country and I am very glad that we conducted our vote in a peaceful manner.

“I will urge all members of the house to support Nana Abaase has they supported me and I know he has the expertise to lead our region to greatness.” Pimampim Yaw Kagrese V said.

Nana Owusu Sakyi III, on his part asked for support from all members of the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs saying, “the region is a new region and we are the food basket of Ghana, so if we are the food basket of the country then why should we reduce ourselves to disputes?

“As the President, I can’t do anything on my own, so I will humbly plead with all members of the house to support me and help develop our region, if I do anything that goes against the development of our region, they should prompt me and I will accept their critique in good fate.”  Nana Owusu Sakyi lll

He also revealed that, with the support of the other Paramount Chiefs in the region, he will create a strong committee that will deal with chieftaincy disputes in the region and believes that they will be able to resolve all chieftaincy issues in the region before the end of his tenure.

“I have already said in my manifesto that, I will establish a committee of expects to help develop our region, we have a lot of people in our region that are endowed with knowledge.

“We have people like Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, Prof. Nsia Gyabaah, Prof. Kamela, Nana Owusu Agyare, Nana Owusu Gyima who can help to solve chieftaincy issues in the region.

“One issue with solving chieftaincy disputes is that when a Paramount Chiefs fails to resolve a certain chieftaincy dispute, he can no longer preside over that same issue and that is one of the reasons we still have chieftaincy disputes in the region.” Nana said.

He continued, “I was a research committee member, standing committee member, edcuation committee member, and the project committee chairman in the erstwhile Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, so I know how to maneuver my way our in solving chieftaincy disputes.

“I will form a strong committee which will involve great minds in the region including the media and by so doing, we will resolve all outstanding chieftaincy disputes in the region.

The Paramount Chief of Offuman Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Gyan Brokuo II, Paramount Chief of Nkroranza Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV and the Paramount Chief of Dwan Traditional Area, Nana Okofrobour Awase Afura III were elected to represent alongside the newly elected President and Vice President to represent the Bono East Region at the National House of Chiefs.
