The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George has expressed dissatisfaction over the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif and the Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Prof. Amin Alhassan statements about amount of money spent for the 13th All African Games.

Hon. Mustapha Ussif told the Public Account Committee that “GBC was the official broadcaster for the 13th All African Games, and I can confirm that full payment has been made to GBC. I can’t remember the exact amount but I know that it is in the excess of $3 million,” he said.

But Prof. Amin Alhassan in a statement said the media house received $105, 000 for the African Games coverage and not $3 million.

“Of the total payment made for the Games, GBC was only entitled to One hundred and five thousand US Dollars (USD 105, 000.00). Therefore, the statement that GBC was paid ‘in excess of three million US dollars’ comes as a surprise.” Part of the statement read.

Reacting to this Sam George questioned the whereabouts of the rest of the money.

He added that he has evidence that not all the GBC staff were not paid as claimed by Prof. Amin Alhassan.

“Yesterday at the Public Accounts Cttee hearings, I asked the Minister for Sports a direct question about GBC’s involvement and payments for the 13th All Africa Games. He replied that they had paid GBC in excess of US$3million.” Sam George said.

“Today, the GBC has issued a statement that they only received US$105,000. So where is the rest of the money? Who was it paid to? And the GBC claims it has paid all its staff who worked on the All African Games. I have evidence to the contrary.” He quizzed.

According to him, he will follow the matter until the truth is discovered.

“I would follow this matter up including summoning the GBC Management, the Ministry of Information and the Minister for Youth and Sports before both PAC and the Communications Committee of Parliament to get to the bottom of the matter.” He vowed.
