The Upper East Regional representative of the Daakye Hemaa Kids Beauty Pageant Season 2, Vanessa Lamisi Winpini, with the stage name Lamisi, on last Sunday, 18th August, 2024, during her performance captivated the audience as she portrayed the transformational leadership of the Bawku Naba.
In her role as the Bawku Naba, Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Lamisi brought the character to life with her charismatic presence and powerful performance.
Acting as the Over Lord of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Lamisi adorned in traditional attire, the Banaa or Fugu as it is called in Kusaal, highlighted some of the transformational achievements of the Fearless Tiger since his enskillment on 24th April, 1984 in education, infrastructure, administrative and culture in the Kusaug Traditional Area.
In terms of cultural reforms under the great Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, Lamsisi made mention of the fact that, he has reduced the dowry requirements from four cattle to two, making marriage more accessible and easing the financial burden on families.
The abolishment of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which alongside the Paramount Queen Mother, Puanaba Alasbuudi, played a pivotal role in the complete abolition of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the Traditional area, protecting the rights and health of women and girls
According to Lamisi, the Samanpiid Festival was celebrated on a clan basis. However, under the leadership of Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, it has evolved into a collective celebration for the entire traditional area. “This unification has not only strengthened communal bonds but also serves as a significant source of funds for various developmental projects in the region.” She said.
“In cultural reform, I have played a significant role, in the abolishment of the female genital mutilation. Marriage rites have become easy in the Upper East region as all you need is two cows and you are good to go.” Lamisi highlighted.
Touching on some educational advancement under the Fearless Tiger, Lamis said the Bawku Naba Educational Endowment Fund which was established by Zug-Raan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II is currently in operation which support brilliant but needy students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to education.
“I have granted scholarships for many students in the Upper East region to further their education, built hostels for girl schools, classroom blocks for Tempani and Kusanaba Senior High Schools.” She said
Lamisi finally explained that, the Zug-Raan, presides over six Over six (6) administrative districts which includes the Garu District, Tempane District, Bawku Municipality, Pusiga District, Zebilla District, and the Binduri District. His leadership according to Lamisi in these areas has ensured effective governance, development, and peace.
“Who don’t enjoy peace, under my leadership, peace has been restored in the Upper East region, by the grace of God, I was named the best Paramount Chief in the year 2022.” She told the audience
