Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong has refuted media reports that he said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will use every means to win the 2024 general elections.
According to him, he was misquoted because he spoke in the local dialect (Twi) and the media has misinterpreted comments during their story writing in the international language. Adding that his comments were not intended to incite violence.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi constituency explained that his comment was to promote the NPP achievements that would influnce Ghanaians to give them another chance to lead the country.
He said every political party’s aim is to win an election so he wanted to assure the NPP supporters that they will break the 8 through their legacies not by violence.
“I have never said that I was very emphatic that we are a political party, the NDC is a political party they are trying their best to defeat the NPP and we are also trying to win the election 2024. So I am sure that the NDC lying to us and making the government unpopular with their press conference is a way they want to win the elections and we are also trying to win the elections.” He said.
According to the Minister, he is convinced that the NPP will win the elections because of the work the government has done.
“What I said in twi and how they translated to english are different things. If you say someone can go and burn the sea is a violence. It is a normal thing we say everyday. And I repeat I am convinced that due to what the government has done, and the NPP campaign message, the Parliamentary candidates we have, and the Presidential candidate we have, things that we will do, the NDC research they have done, everything shows that NPP can win the 2024 elections.” Bryan Acheampong added.
