Bangladesh is on the brink of Military rule as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country.

The resignation comes as thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in the capital Dhaka, a day after clashes between police and protesters left at least 90 people dead.

BBC reported that thousands of protesters are storming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence in the capital Dhaka.

Nationwide curfew has been imposed in Bangladesh. Mobile internet access is also restricted.

Bangladesh’s Army chief, Waker-Uz-Zaman has said an interim government would be formed.

According to him, the country’s opposition political parties have been informed about the development. But it is not clear  who will head the government.

Waker-Uz-Zaman expressed optimism that the authorities will find a lasting solution to the crisis ahead of their engagements.

People have taken to the streets of Bangladesh to jubilate following the resignation of long-term Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh and India have been in bilateral relations for many years.

The two countries have been in diplomatic relations since 1971.

On 6 December, Bangladesh and India celebrate Friendship Day commemorating India’s recognition of Bangladesh and the continued friendship between the two countries.

The historic land boundary agreement was signed on 6 June 2015 which settled decades-old border disputes, while negotiations are still ongoing over the sharing of water of the transboundary rivers.

In September 2011, the two countries signed a major accord on border demarcation to end the 4-decade old disputes over boundaries.

India also granted 24-hour access to Bangladeshi citizens in the Tin Bigha Corridor.
