Ghanaian actress and storyteller, Grace Omaboe widely known as Maame Dokono has refuted claims that she dated former president, the late Jerry John Rawlings.
Speaking at an event at the Silverbird Cinemas to mark her 80th birth anniversary and 60 years of her acting career, Maame Dokono stated that people say she dated the late president but it was not true.
“People say they heard I was a girlfriend of president Rawlings. Who is that person? I was never a girlfriend of president Rawlings.” She said.
Talking about her political journey, the By the Fireside star revealed that former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings introduced her to politics.
Maame Dokono earlier, in an interview with Delay stated that she can not date a president because it will prevent her from speaking her mind if there is anything wrong in the country.
“At first I was an NPP sympathiser but I followed Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings because of her good things for women but after the NPP lost the elections, I started having some issues with the woman. So I came back to the NPP. We didn’t have a problem because people were saying I was dating President Rawlings because the woman knew that it was not true.” She said.
“I am an attractive woman and at that time I was young but I don’t think I can have an affair with any president. I can’t do that because if it happens like that and there is anything wrong you can’t say. But the problem I had with Konadu Agyemang Rawlings was that she thought I was a political prostitute.” Maame Dokono added.
Meanwhile, the actress will launch a book that talks about her life and relationship with Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
The book titled “Unforgettable” will be launched on August 7, 2024.
