The District Chief Executive for Techiman North in the Bono East Region, Hon. Donkor Everson, has a matter of urgency called on all Ghanaians to demand for receipt from any government official when transacting business with them in order to eradicate corruption and lift the sinking image of some public institutions.
The people’s DCE, as he is affectionately called, said it has been the habit of some Assembly staff across Ghana to charge exorbitant fees from people when rendering service to them .
“By demanding receipts, the public can hold government officials accountable for their actions, this simple step can go a long way in rebuilding trust in our public sector and ensuring that our resources are used for the benefit of all citizens.” He said
This came to light when a Holland based Ghanaian Businessman Mr. Muftaw Abdul Salam lodged a complaint at DCE’S office about a week ago that a field engineer has charged him GH3000 instead of GH1500 as a permit fee to fence his two plots of land off Tuobodom -Tanoboasi road.
Adding that when the DCE saw a new building ongoing he investigated and realized that there was no permit granted before the building as a result he called Muftaw who later confessed that one field engineer charged him the illegal fee .
Due to that DCE intervened and the difference has been given back to Muftaw while the case is still ongoing.
As a result the DCE therefore urged all Ghanaians to be vigilant and request for receipt any time they pay money for a service to be rendered to them .
Finally , Mr Muftaw Abdul Salam in an interview with journalists praised the DCE for his swift intervention and further urged other MMDCE’s and other Government Officers to follow his exemplary leadership style in order to eradicate corruption in the country.
