The Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has described as senseless some social media abuse on Ghanaian players.
He said it is unfair for people to peddle falsehoods against players, especially the leaders of the various teams.
Speaking at University of Ghana Dede Ayew indicated that all the criticisms and false information out there depend on their sources of information which is not helping the sports activities in the country.
“I am trying to understand the reason why it is coming that way, so it depends on the journalists, people, fans, social media. All depends on where it is coming from. You have to try and analyse yourself but sometimes it is unfair, and sometimes it just doesn’t make sense and sometimes they have a point.” He said.
“Like I said we are human beings in everything there is a way to go about it. We have to know where we are in Ghana, we need to be able to manage all these things that are coming with it. That doesn’t mean we have to say amen to everything but because we are personalities in our countries, we want to show a good image outside.” Dede Ayew added.
According to him, the sports men and women are representing the country in different places and that they want to show a good image outside so they have to be mentally tough in dealing with fake news.
He believes it is imperative for the Ghanaian sports men to ensure pain in order to smile later.
“We can’t be going back and forth with our own media people and our own fans so sometimes as a personality you have to swallow things that are completely false or fake news and that is where your mental toughness comes and you need to be able to endure pains to smile later.” He stated.
