Techiman South Education Directorate organizes reading, spelling competition to promote literacy

The Techiman South Education Directorate, has organized a reading and spelling competition for schools under the Bamiri Circuit to encourage a love for reading and writing among learners.

The event, which was organized for both the primary and JHS schools took place at the Bamiri Yaw Kramo Community Center, brought together students from various schools which includes Asantaaso RC primary, Bamiri M/A, Queen of peace primary, Ebomso Aworpataa Islamic JHS to showcase their literacy skills and compete for top prizes.

For the past two years the Techiman municipal education directorate has introduced reading and spelling for all the schools in the municipality to ensure that pupils can read and write without facing any challenges.

The Techiman South Education Directorate’s initiative has been widely praised by educators and parents alike, who see it as a positive step towards promoting literacy and academic excellence among students. The competition not only provided an opportunity for students to showcase their talents but also served as a motivator, encouraging them to continue developing their reading and writing skills.

The competition aimed to instill a habit of regular reading and writing among learners, fostering a deeper understanding of language and literature. By participating in the event, students not only demonstrated their proficiency in reading and spelling but also gained valuable experience in public speaking and teamwork.

In an interview with the media, Rev. Adjei Philemon, the Bamiri Circuit Supervisor, admitted that they want to expose the learners into public speaking and the confidence associated with it.

He urged the government to come to the side with some support to be able to organize these competitions to ensure that the children can read and write.

“We are here to motivate the learners, because most of the time some learners feel like they are not getting the best of education simply because of the location of their school which shouldn’t be so.

“We know that at least one or two learners will take what we are saying seriously, meaning that by the end of the day, we will be able to positively impact on the life of at least a learner.

“I will say that the standard of education has somehow dropped in the circuit but we know that with determination and hard work, we can revive it, hence the organization of a program of this nature and therefore needs the support of the government to make it sustainable and more attractive.” Rev. Adjei Philemon told the media

Some of the Teachers and these pupils spoke to Elvisanokyenews.com after the competition.

“I have really learned a lot from this program, especially on how to motivate myself and improve my self-confidence, aside the confidence and motivation, we have been able to add a lot of words to our vocabulary which will help us a lot in the future.” A student told our reporter

A teacher said, “this is a very good competition, I will entreat all schools in the circuit to take it seriously and fully participate in it, because it will help the learners a lot especially as they prepare to write their examination.”
