Destiny Etiko is a Nigerian actress and one of the most popular in the Nollywood movie industry.
Destiny Etiko was born on August 12, 1994, in Udi, Enugu, Nigeria. After completing her primary and secondary education in Enugu, Destiny moved to Awka, Anambra in southeastern Nigeria to complete further education. As a young girl, Destiny drew inspiration from her actress mother and decided to follow in her footsteps.
In 2011, she entered the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood) after registering with the ‘Actors Guild of Nigeria.’ She graduated from ‘Nnamdi Azikiwe University’ in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts. She appeared in minor roles in several films before landing her breakthrough role in the movie, ‘Idemili.’
Released in 2014, ‘Idemili,’ which was directed by the award-winning director Ernest Obi, went on to become a box office hit. Destiny was nominated for ‘Best Promising Actress’ at ‘City People Entertainment Awards.’ The nomination helped her become a known entity, which, in turn, landed her major acting roles. After the release of ‘Idemili,’ Destiny was cast in a number of films, such as ‘Black Xmas,’ ‘More Trouble,’ ‘After Wawa,’ ‘Enuma,’ ‘School Trouble,’ etc.
She is currently one of the most popular actresses in Nollywood. She has acted alongside famous Nigerian stars like Mercy Johnson, Patience Ozokwor, John Okafor, and Ken Erics among other popular Nollywood stars. She has also won a couple of awards like ‘Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award’ under the category ‘Best New Actress’ and ‘Golden Icon Movie Academy Award’ under the ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ category
Destiny is a confident and bold woman.
She often discusses controversial and important topics like casting couch and sexual harassment within the industry. In one of her interviews, she was brave enough to admit that she too, was once victimized. Destiny doesn’t want to repeat the mistakes of her mother, who sacrificed her acting career to take care of her family.
