The Ghana Police Service has reacted to reports that the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare has been asked to proceed on leave.
It was alleged the IGP had been asked to proceed on leave and hand over duties to his deputy, Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The news of IGP’s removal from his post was in connection with the 2023 leaked tape scandal.
But the Ghana Police Service in a statement dismissed the report.
According to the Police, the news is fake and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
“We would like to urge the public to disregard this fake news and treat same with the contempt it deserves.” The statement said.
The Police added that the IGP remains committed to his duty as the of the Ghana Police Service by the mandate given to him by president Akufo-Addo.
“The Inspector General of Police remains committed to his patriotic duty of leading the Ghana Police Service as per the mandate given by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.” Part of the statement read.

POLICE REACT TO FAKE NEWS OF IGP’S REMOVAL
The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to some media reports suggesting that the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare has been asked to proceed on leave.
